Jonathan Truong is a 12-year-old pianist and Davidson Young Scholar who began piano lessons at the age of five. He currently studies with Dr. Wenting Shi and Dr. Winston Choi at the New Music School in Chicago.

Jonathan recently performed with the SEEN Chamber Orchestra under conductor Connor Gray Covington at Ganz Hall at Roosevelt University. His competition honors include being named an Early Music Winner in the Junior Division of the O’Malley National Concerto Competition, formerly known as the Walgreens National Concerto Competition; a finalist in the Chicago International Music Competition; and an Honorable Mention recipient in the Northern Illinois University Community School of the Arts Sinfonia Concerto Competition.

He has also received First Place in the Chicago Area Music Teachers Association Roberta Savler Piano Contest, Level C; Second Place in the North Shore Music Teachers Association Piano Competition; and Third Place in the Illinois State Music Teachers Association Competition. Jonathan has earned multiple Gold Medals at the Northwest Suburban Music Teachers Association and Chicago Area Music Teachers Association Sonata-Sonatina Festivals and has received scholarships through the Northwest Suburban Music Teachers Association Summer Camp Scholarship and the Western Springs Music Club Parello & Veverka Competition.

Jonathan was selected to participate in the Suzuki Association of the Americas Conference as both a masterclass pianist and a Youth Assembly Piano Duo performer. He has further developed his musicianship through masterclasses with distinguished artists including James Giles, Steven Spooner, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Spencer Myer, Steven Osborne, Alan Chow, Adam Gyorgy, Sergio Monteiro, and James Goldsworthy.

Beyond music, Jonathan enjoys swimming, biking, chess, collecting rocks and minerals, and challenging himself through advanced mathematics and competitive science activities.
